			<title>The need for alternative media</title>
			<link>http://winstonsmithmedia.com/content/view/59/</link>
			<description>

Our collective reality is determined by the facts we perceive and the interpretations we attribute to them.

American mainstream media provides us with facts and offers to interpret what those events mean to us from a social and political point of view. We are inclined to accept these interpretations without further investigation.

The partisan political and social institutions that hold positions of power in our society, as revealed in the American mainstream media, heavily influence social and political realities. This influence often so dominates interpretations we recieve that critical alternative interpretations of events necessary to address the challenges we face are not considered.

Winston Smith media is a collective formed out of a conviction that if the media cannot adequately address countless issues of significance in our society, we must become the media ourselves. As we emerge from a local perspective, to national and international awareness, we aspire to broaden our coverage of political and social issues of importance to all of us.
